This was second visit to Hat Hill Cottage, so I knew what to expect: a serene, chintz-free getaway tucked in the bush but close to town. We were here on an editorial retreat so the lack of wi-fi  was a bonus, as was the wonderfully comfortable big purple couch (because who says meetings have to happen in a vertical position?) The large round dining table was perfectly positioned for doing actual work: close to the kitchen power point for keeping laptops charged and to the fridge for keeping after-work drinks chilled. And the mud bricks kept the place warm so we didn’t feel the need to learn how to light a fire.
